Maintenance Tips for John Deere Construction and Forestry Equipment

John Deere construction and forestry equipment is designed to last, but it still needs to be properly maintained to operate at its best. Here are a few tips to help you keep your John Deere construction and forestry equipment in operating in top condition:

  • Change the oils as directed in the maintenance schedule. The oil in your John Deere construction and forestry equipment is responsible for lubricating the engine, hydraulic system, and other moving parts. It's important to change the oil regularly, according to the manufacturer's recommendations, to prevent excessive wear and tear on your equipment.
  • Check the fluids daily. In addition to changing the oil, you should also check the levels of other fluids in your John Deere construction and forestry equipment, such as the engine oil, transmission fluid, and hydraulic fluid. Make sure the levels are correct and that the fluids are clean and free of contaminants.
  • Sample engine, hydraulic, transmission, and axle oils every 500 hours.  Oil sampling can help identify failures before they are catastrophic and create unplanned downtime.  Oil sampling is often a requirement of extended warranty.
  • Inspect the tires and undercarriage. The tires/undercarriage on your John Deere construction and forestry equipment are important for traction and stability. Inspect the tires regularly for damage and make sure they are properly inflated.  Keep track sag within specification to ensure track wear is not accelerated due to loose or overtightened tracks.  Undercarriage is expensive, so make sure to keep it adjusted properly.
  • Clean the equipment. Keeping your John Deere construction and forestry equipment clean will help to prevent the buildup of dirt and debris, which can cause damage to the equipment.
  • Service the equipment regularly. In addition to the regular maintenance tasks listed above, it's important to have your John Deere construction and forestry equipment serviced regularly by a qualified technician. This will help to identify and address any potential problems before they cause major damage.

By following these simple maintenance tips, you can help to keep your John Deere construction and forestry equipment in top condition and extend its lifespan.

Here are a few additional tips for maintaining your John Deere construction and forestry equipment:

  • Store the equipment properly. When you're not using your John Deere construction and forestry equipment, it's important to store it properly. Follow the long-term storage process outlined in the Operators Manual.
  • Use the right attachments. Make sure you're using the right attachments for the job you're doing. Using the wrong attachments can damage your equipment and put you at risk of injury.

By following these tips, you can help to keep your John Deere construction and forestry equipment safe and in good working condition.
